    What Ren’s Working On|
    August 12, 2011

So, here it is so far-the back of my Sage Cardi.  Isn’t it turning out just lovely?  I’m about to decrease for the arm holes-about 10 row to go!  Here’s the run down of how it’s been so far…. I cast on just fine, no issue.  It’s that first row that gave me problems.  The first row is an increase row, and you get thrown immediately into the pattern.  I ripped that first row out 3 times before placing stitch…

We’ve got SUPER exciting news folks.  Purl has just joined the 3/50 project!  The 3/50 project is a movement whose sole purpose is to save local business.  If you’re unaware, local brick and mortar business is a dying establishment.  The culture within the United States is one obsessed with sale shopping and only buying at the cheapest price possible.  Though we all love to get bang for our buck, sometimes the…

It seems that when I’m knitting in the shop and folks come in, they are very interested in what the current project is, where the pattern’s from, and what supplies it features.  In lieu of this, I’ve decided I will start posting about my current projects.  It will be interesting to see how this…

Looking for a little 4th of July inspiration?  Stop in today and check out the Spring/Summer 2011 issue of…

Yesterday while dreaming about knitting; but dredging through boring work stuff instead, I decided to take a mini break and gaze out the windows, allowing my eyes to soak up the beautiful sunny view. Reminiscing of summer days in years past which consisted of relentless sun bathing and complete disregard for the harms of its exposure, I noticed a Gainan’s flower van pull up.  Oh, lovely!  Someone is getting flowers!  In times like these, i only allow a small…

Well folks, our July event “Post Market Madness” was a complete success.  Thank you to everyone who participated, you make these events successful.  So, thank you!
At this event, people enjoyed a testing table featuring all of our fabulous new yarns and needles which will begin arriving in August.  As we approach late summer, you can expect to see new yarn lines such as Shibui, Jade Saphire, and Madelinetosh-which we are SUPER STOKED about!…

Well, we went to market, we saw market, we conquered market!  Get our your magnifying glasses folks!  These pictures were taken with my cell phone and are so little! I wish I hadn’t forgotten my camera. Even still, it would be  a shame not to share them….For those who are unfamiliar, The National Needle Arts Association is an organization whose members are retailers in the fiber arts market. As a member of the TNNA, we have access to The…

If you do nothing else this week, make sure you pick up the June/July issue of Yellowstone Valley Women.  In it you will find a fabulous article featuring our very own Leah Wolever, of The Crooked Hook.  Leah is definitely a “Mompreneur”, as the article puts it.  Starting a business out of her home crocheting quirky and creative hats and accessories for people of all ages and sizes, Leah has become an overnight success.  You can now find her…

The Billings Jaycees is a non profit organization in town for young professions between the ages of 18-41.  This group of fine young adults have come together to focus on, community service and improvement, and nurturing young business people in Billings through networking, professional trainings, and bridging international connections.  We all had tons of fun knitting, crocheting, chit chatting, and learning about one other.  It was an honor to have the opportunity to contribute to…

Last week a beautiful little gal named Susan Woods came into the shop.  She browsed around and after settling on a skein of our ArtYarns Mohair Splash, we got to talking.  As we chit chat I learned that Susan is from Whoppity, WA and was just in Billings for a short stint.  But, unlike your typical traveler, Susan is in the middle of a year long walkabout.

In a nut shell, here is her story  as it was told to…

These shawl pins by Jul are just lovely.  They are the perfect adornment for those summer shawls you’ve all been working so hard on!

Are you hooked on knitting or crocheting stuffed figures?  Then you HAVE to meet Maggie Turley, creator of hundreds of these fabulous items.  Maggie has been knitting on and off for nearly 40 years.  She started with socks and liked it well enough; but it wasn’t until 2003 when her grand daughter was born that she really found her passion in knitting toys.  Maggie found herself inspired by knit toy masterminds such as Alan Dart…

Shortly after the shop opened Carol came in looking for yarn to make something for her mother, Caroline.  She had heard Caroline talk about the ArtYarns and decided to go for it. Carol loved the Trellis Shawl pattern and just new that the yarn she picked was destined to become a beautiful shawl to be gifted to her mom for Mother’s Day.  Carol dove right into the project and, rows into…

In our first week open, this gentleman, Don Record, came in to check out Purl.  I was so intrigued as to how his passion for knitting began, and as we talked, he shared his story.  When he was 17, Don really wanted a sweater with a deer on the back and the word “Wyoming” underneath.   Mary Maxim patterns were popular at the time, so…
